For sale we have an incredible one of a kind Ashley Pangborn Warlord Bass that once belonged to the late and great bassist Nick Smith. The bass sounds fantastic and plays great with no functional issues. There are lots of cosmetic blems on the bass that will be listed below in tech notes.
Weight: 8lbs 15oz
1st Fret Neck Depth: 0.82"
12th Fret Neck Depth: 0.90"
Year: We believe it's a 1985 build but aren't 100% sure
Made in London by Ashley Pangborn for Nick Smith
Condition: Fair to Good
Tech Notes: The bass plays great but has cosmetics blems worth mentioning that put the bass's condition in the fair to good range. There are surface scratches throughout the bass and I won't call them out specifically unless they're particularly deep. The bass is setup with Rotosound 40-100. We can set it up with heavier strings if you desire.
From the headstock down:
The headstock itself is quite clean with minor indents around the edges and one ding between the D and G tuner on the treble side edge of the headstock. The brass nut is filed perfectly.
The sides of the fretboard have lacquer chipping off of the ebony and there is a very skinny center seam crack running down the fretboard in a few spots (frets 2-3, 7-11, 14-17). The crack is stable and the fretboard is well hydrated now which helped it seal up quite a bit. The frets don't have much wear on them and are nice and clean. There's a little bit of divoting in the ebony on fret 3 bass side
The body has wear; scratches, dings, indents, and finish cracking around the input jack. The back of the body also has scratches and indents especially around the edges. The seems to be a repair on the side of the body by the input jack. Possibly from an old strap button.
Inside the control cavity it looks like someone removed the original volume pot from the PCB quite sloppily and replaced it with a non-board mounted pot.
Overall the bass has bumps and scrapes from being gigged with and well loved. The bass sounds incredible and plays great and deserves a good home. Please message us with any questions or if you need any additional photos.
