Michael is making a batch of 10 Evil Chunks with Gold Knobs, Gold Faceplate, and matte black enclosure. The ETA for the batch is mid June. This is one of his most asked for pedals so we've decided to open up pre-orders for this run of 10 Evil Chunks. We're not expecting any additional for several months so if you want one now's a good chance to get one on order! Limit 1 (one) per customer. People have a tendency to resell his pedals over list price and we're trying to avoid that as best as possible.
From Michael Klein:
Evil Chunk was hugely inspired by the tones of ‘90s death metal. While the circuitry involved is geared toward biting, chugging tones...I think you’ll find the voicing and controls quite versatile in dialing in a variety of high-gain tones. I worked hard to maintain a surprisingly low noise floor, all the while pushing an impressive amount of tactile headroom and output to adequately drive any power amplifier.
Top Row Controls
LEVEL: this is the output volume control. Think of it just like what it is - the volume control. As mentioned above, there is a LOT of output in this pedal, so don’t be surprised if you run this control quite low.
CONTOUR: this is a unique midrange voicing control that, in conjunction with the MIDDLE control, provides a great deal of flexibility in the midrange voicing of Evil Chunk. Higher settings noticeably scoop the midrange frequencies, and lower settings really begin to push the midrange frequencies in a cool way. I recommend starting with this control around noon and working from there.
GAIN: this is pretty easy to use – this sets the amount of distortion in Evil Chunk. You will notice an intentional low-end thickening as this control is maxed...for your chug!
Bottom Row Controls
BASS – this is a low-frequency control, similar to that found in the tonestack of many classic high- gain amplifiers. For larger than life tones, don’t be afraid to crank it!
MIDDLE – this controls the midrange frequency content of the signal. Evil Chunk has an incredible amount of flexibility in the interaction between the MIDDLE and CONTOUR controls. You will find the ability to dial in many different types of tones simply with these two controls! Be patient and experiment.
TREBLE – controls the high frequencies of the preamp signal. I have intentionally voiced this powerfully, and most of my favorite settings are around noon, give or take. You can dial in more characteristically obnoxious ‘90s death metal tones at both higher and lower settings.
